My deck is gray. Is it ruined?

Almost never. Gray is a surface condition — UV-degraded fiber and mildew sitting on sound wood. It is exactly what cleaning is for, and the after photographs on this page are all boards that started gray.

Can you clean composite decking?

Yes, and it wants a gentler approach than wood. Composite holds mold in its texture and cleans up well; it just should not be hit hard enough to scar the surface.

Should I clean it or replace it?

Get it cleaned before you decide. A deck that looks finished is very often a deck that has never been washed. If boards are genuinely rotten or the framing is gone, that is a carpenter's job and you will be told so.
